The idea of providing services in the field of dental care and oral hygiene to the poor and needy persons in the outlying areas of Delhi and its neighbourhood was conceived in the year 1983-84 and is an on-going process.
A fully equipped and air-conditioned Mobile Dental Van was launched after procuring a chasis through donations. The Clinic has been providing dental care and oral hygiene facilities to the residents of the re-settlement colonies, slum areas, and villages located even in far away places in and around Delhi ever-since then.
Few years later newer, larger and fully equipped air-conditioned Vans, again with the help of voluntary contributions from the members of the Club and with donations, with Dental Chairs and Units were commissioned in the year 2001 and inaugurated by the then Hon’ble Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare.
This fleet of Mobile Dental Clinics fitted with all the latest gadgets, full-fledged Surgeries, dental X-Ray Units and their own generator-sets, have now been catering to the poorest of the poor, who otherwise can’t afford dental treatment. Over a few years’ period these dental clinics have examined well over 3,00,000 persons and provided free dental treatment to a large number of them. These Vans are available to all other Rotary Clubs in the District on request, besides their services being made available to educational institutions, philanthropic institutions, Social Clubs, Organized Groups, Institutions for the handicapped, Jail authorities, Health Melas etc. The Mobile Dental Clinics have become very popular amongst the masses and have earned laurels from several quarters.
Besides the Mobile Dental Clinics, a full-fledged Health Clinic was also established in Trilokpuri, a re-settlement colony in Delhi, in the year 1992-93 by raising donations, aiming to serve very poor population who can ill-afford medical treatment. This has since been handed over to the management of All India Institute of Medical Sciences for carrying on its activities..
Another Health Clinic in the re-settlement colony of Dakshinpuri, New Delhi was established by Rotary Club of Delhi Midtown which has been serving very poor and weaker sections of the society in areas of South Delhi. On an average more than 20,000 patients are treated yearly. The facilities, comprise of an Eye Clinic, Physiotherapy Centre, Pathological Laboratories and provision of free medicines and on Dr. Bali’s instance a full-fledged Dental Clinic has been in this Health Centre, catering to about 90 under-privileged patients daily, free of cost.
Yet another important Rotary project made operative by Dr.Bali had been the Dental Clinic at Durgabari in South Delhi, which provides free oral hygiene facilities and dental care to the poor residing in the nearby re-settlement colonies of South Delhi.
